Windows Store is not just a PC gaming market. Its MS's store on Windows 8/10, mobile devices, and Xbox. Its games, TV/movies, and apps shared between multiple platforms. Also, no middle man. More control and higher profits selling direct. Kinda like EA, Ubisoft, and Blizzard does. But MS still gives Steam some content. |
This stuff isn't available in my country as well as many others. This shows how MS is bad at handling worldwide appeal. And Windows 8 and mobile devices can be considered dead as of now. I don't see Windows Mobile or whatever it is called to have any future because Microsoft abandoned it and they don't intend to support the platform. So, this leaves Windows 10 and Xbox only.
My point here is simple: Windows Store doesn't give MS anything to achieve in PC gaming market because right now it works only as a nice bonus for Xbox owners - it gives them the ability to play their digital games on PC if they want. Also probably it gives the ability for some PC only gamers to try Xbox exclusives but they will never use it for anything except these exclusives. They have Steam for other games. So, this shows how Windows Store is pretty useless. At least for now.
