Doesn't work exactly like that due to launching in march. Launching in the holidays is like having your birthday at christmas, you'll never get as many presents as you would if they were seperate days. A launch boost and a separate holiday boost is bigger then just a single holiday launch. meaning comparing PS4's Nov13-Oct14 and Switch's March17-Feb18 isn't fine either. We'll know as soon as one starts dropping behind by a large amount. If Switch consistently falls behind in 2018 to the point that the holidays looping round won't be enough to recover the gap. Then we'll know. |
I think a good comparison is PS4 2014 vs Switch 2017
Switch launched in March but for the sake of argument lets say its launch month is the equivalent of 3 regular months (they shipped a similar amount in March as they did in Apr-Jun & Jul-Sep).
PS4 sales Dec 28, 2013-Nov 22, 2014
10.2 million (sold through according to Sony)
NSW sales March 3, 2017-Dec 10, 2017
Over 10 million (sold through according to Nintendo)
Pretty close and both doing great regardless of who is the winning.
