It's already receiving an increasing amount of 3rd party support, not a decreasing amount, with people rushing to get games onto the Switch now that they see it is a success.

Regardless, the fact that a Pokemon game is a bit down the line will by itself guarantee that any potential slump between now and then will rebound in a big way.

Nothing about the Switch screams "fad" outside of its popularity, and you only need to read/watch/listen to the reviewers and youtube personalities to see that it has widespread appeal, with many already declaring it their preferred platform simply due to its convenience.

The only problem I see going forward is the hardware not being strong enough, as they were forced by the Wii U's failure to release a bit early and so the timing was off to use a newer processor. If they offer some mid-gen improvement like everyone else is doing but time it better (and given how lucrative this has been for both Nintendo and Nvidia I have no doubt that they would) there's no reason this thing shouldn't keep selling well for years to come.

My hope for the upgrade, though, is that they make it compatible with all of the previous Switch's controllers/docks/accessories, as that would really drive the cost down for those looking to upgrade from the first model. I think that's quite unlikely, but it would really help those things to fly off the shelves.

Otherwise, the only other major hangup so far is that Nintendo still hasn't introduced an online service akin to the PS4 or Xbox1. Once they do that I suspect we'll see even more third party support.

In essence, then... I disagree.
