I don't know. If that were true, I think there would be evidence of it somewhere. Best I could find was Microsoft saying they wish someone would do it for them without actually saying they are barred from doing it themselves. Ever since 2K Sports canceled its MLB 2K series in 2014, Xbox fans looking for a licensed MLB game have only had one option--the RBI Baseball series--while Sony fans continue to get that franchise and new installments in The Show series. It doesn't look like this will change anytime soon, but Xbox fans may be happy to learn Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has spoken up to say he would "love" to see another pro baseball game on Xbox someday. "Some of us have been begging for a true MLB game for years and fallen on deaf ears," one person on Twitter wrote to Spencer recently. The executive dismissed the idea that Microsoft hasn't heard these suggestions and went on to say a third-party game would be something Microsoft would support. https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-boss-would-love-to-see-new-xbox-mlb-game/1100-6435622/ As far as Nintendo goes, they haven't bothered with sports licensing on their own in a long while anyway. They seem to prefer to market their own IP characters into the sports games they make. |
When EA had the license, things were best. Now that they don't, only Sony wants to invest in making an MLB game for their consoles.
Keep in mind the time period: this was only 3 years ago, when the WiiU was not selling well and only Sony was making their own MLB game.
The Show is about 11 years old, so it was really easy for Sony to just keep producing iterations.
