A too strict system would ruin everything...it's a delicate thing to find the right balance. It's still racing and a bit of contact should be tolerated at all times. 

At this point I would prefer a hardcore mode, dq on contact. PD screwed up the penalty system and people have found ways to intentionally ruin your race while circumventing detection. Pushing you from behind out of a corner, from the side into a wall, cutting you off at the apex, pushing you into a shortcut penalty, it's all fine according to PD. Passing a wreck, hitting someone suddenly re-entering the track at a sharp angle, hitting someone throwing their car in front of / against you in the corner, hitting someone braking on straights, all down rated.

I know the difference between a bit of contact and intentional force. The physics engine should be able to figure that out as well. Ofcourse the AI drives the same so perhaps PD doesn't know any better.
