The PSP did great in Japan. And the PS3 did well - for a declining console market. The PS4 will finish a bit below the PS3 and I think the support this gen for the PS console in Japan is better than last gen. They have more Yakuza games, MH, DQ. The existing big 3rd parties are still there. It’s just that console gaming is dying in Japan and no one can do anything about it.

I think the ps3 did decent in terms of sales but in terms of profit for Sony it was a disaster.
