It's franchise fatigue. Loved Demon Souls, really enjoyed Dark Souls, got bored with Dark Souls 2. Loved Pokemon RBY, Loved Pokemon Gold/Silver, enjoyed Chrystal, played Ruby and never finished, and haven't gotten far in a Pokemon game since.
Games now days need to be more complex to keep my attention, look at Grand Theft Auto. GTA3 kept me content with just stealing cars and driving. At this point I have done all that in GTA, but the small mini games and extra stuff civilians do keep me entertained.
The idea I'm getting across is that the original idea, though Vanilla (WoW reference), is the best because it is completely new. Everything that comes after is extra, been there done this.
