When I worked at Best Buy (I quit about six months after the PS3 launch) we sold out of XBox 360s quite a few times during the Kinect launch, the Vita almost all of the time (but that was more do to low stock), the 3DS fairly regularly during holidays, most SKUs of the PS3 at points (when they were still pushing move bundles, we generally had a few of those while the non-move SKUs sold out), and the we definitely sold out of Wiis in 2010.
The PS4 is doing pretty well, but this kind of thing is hardly unprecedented.
