In terms of sales, not a chance. They're not touching those early Wii/DS years. In terms of image? Oh hell yes. In 2015-2016, Nintendo was viewed as a kiddy company and a joke. However, in 2017, they really took steps to turn that around. For me, the main turning points were these:

1. Breath of the Wild actually treating its players like they can maybe figure things out on their own. To me, this title represents them completely changing their development focus into something more, and why this game will always win for me in the BotW vs SMO battle. It felt like a game made with the hardcore gamer in mind. Compare this to Pokemon Sun and Moon. Great games, but STOP TREATING ME LIKE A LITTLE KID WHO'S NEVER PICKED UP A CONTROLLER BEFORE!

2. Letting The Binding Of Isaac onto the Switch. Finally, Nintendo embracing the bloodier, more controversial side of gaming. Due to the religious themes, this game would've NEVER been allowed on a Nintendo console before 2017. This sent the message to me that Nintendo was finally willing to branch out, give us options in terms of what to play rather than just focusing on the Nintendo way.  Their promotion of Doom is a continuation of this new direction.

3. Changing up their advertising. I remember when me and my family were all watching TV and the Double Yoshi Exploshi commercial came on. My parents looked at me funny, asking "Hey, isn't that one of those Nintendo games you still play?" It was so embarrassing that I almost just gave up on Nintendo entirely. Literally, I almost threw away my 3ds. Thankfully, no 3dses or games were harmed, due to me wanting MH4 and still being into Alpha Sapphire. Thank you, Switch commercials, for fixing this. Now even my friends who said they outgrew Nintendo want the system.
