To me its like a hired killer waiting in a baited room for the victims to come in , only to find out that they have been warned about the trap ,so the boss who hired him gets him to wait round the corner and changes the contract to only kill anyone who turns up after the room is full, the boss then shows his" guests" that room is safe and those who go in first will be OK.
