Star Wars Rebel Assault? And yes, with independent LucasArts things were better. |
This was indeed correct.

A classic and very important. The predecessor to the very influential Doom. These games id Soft made back then defined the First Person Shooter genre and I just have to assume things would've developed differently without id and Wolfenstein+Doom+Quake. |
It is. Played Wolfenstein the most out of those early shooter games, but played most of the others as well. Doom was too scary for me though, and only played Quake until years later. I also played plenty of Duke Nukem (in secret until I was actually allowed to play that lol) and even Shadow Warrior. Those were interesting times.

Interesting. I only ever played the second one, was one of those obscure experiences you have as a kid. I found the disc again years later, replayed it and had a good bit of fun. It's a pretty iconic game in some ways actually, but I wouldn't put it in a top 50 Edit: but seriously, that last on-rails flying level. That was insanity. |
It is a fun game, but I'll admit that these first couple of games are largely here for nostalgic value, though I guess Wolfenstein has a case to belong in such a list. I loved that last level, I had the most trouble with the speeder bike level and the tie-fighter level flying through a narrow canyon. We used to play it with a joystick, one of those really stiff ones. It was better just using a mouse lol.
