you're right. that's part of it. but let's remember something : Overwatch was hated for winning last year, and that was (from what I know) a pretty complete game all around for PC and console platforms.

It's not just about how stable a game is, I think it's also that people are just pretentious. If it's a multiplayer game that's just a fun multiplayer game? Disqualified! Don't you know MP only is below the singleplayer master race?

You have a point, but you know, it kinda... is.

I mean, multiplayer games aren't necessarily inferior to single player games, but I think at some point the industry needs to draw a line because they're so different in nature. When it comes to something like video game awards, it only makes sense to favor the single player games because those tend to be the ones with better artistic traits such as visual direction, storytelling, more concise level design and all that. These types of awards are meant to award the best works of art, not the best sports. In an ideal world, you really wouldn't be mixing both together... but here we are.

I don't really agree. The experiences are extremely different, but the artistic merit in Overwatch is that the developers made a multiplayer game that was so fun in the first place. That is art, it's just portraying something you feel less valuable. And by nature it shouldn't be less valuable automatically. I mostly play single player games but I think people who were upset that Uncharted 4 didn't win by default, were being ridiculous. Nothing overly great about that game, they're about the same in terms of quality. From what I seem to remember, most of the available options for GOTY 2016 weren't exactly mindblowing.
