I'd give the game 9.2. Best game of the year for me and I'm sad to know that the producer/director left Tecmo.
But the game music is a 10 (11 actually when looking at other games today). Even the end creadits music kicks ass... Also, wanna mention that I am an musician and been playing guitar for 11 years.
I'm still not done with Ninja Gaiden 2...must play master mode...and feels good knowing I'll get to hear those tunes again.

Great music still exists obviously. But like you said, designers don't have to bother anymore...just make it 5.1 and really loud...and game is ready to be shipped.
