X's side quests were bad in regards to the collecting random things.

Not gonna watch, but I hope not too guided. I hope guided only means it tells you better where to go and not a giant blinking quest icon or arrows on the ground guiding you.

I found Xenoblade Chronicles 1 side quests to be great in how they were done. Only annoying things were when a fetch quest required one to find an item that had like a 1% drop rate in like only 2 destinated locations. X was really bad in this. Found myself many times jus tdoing circles in an area collecting every blue dot and hoping I get it. Then if not, coming back later to hope again. You just had to get lucky to get it. Stuff like that should have been a "red" item in a set location. I have no qualms about fetch quests, just not rare rng fetch quests.

Yeah, the item collecting missions are a pain in the ass. They are boring and tedious. Just running up and down the same path only to get that specific item.

Agree, it didn't help the fact that in XCX the fetch quests only specify the continent (which are huge) and some of them are way more common in some areas of the same continent. But you didn't have a clue about in what area were you supposed to look. I ended downloading a map with collectibles and its drop rate, because I couldn't stand those missions without a more clear guidance. I still think that side-quests generally in XCX were improved, they were more interesting in terms of plot and world-building (which in the end made the main plot feel more barebones, though), and it was more guided than in the first game, except for the fetch quests which were boring and painful in both games. So I prefer to have a more guided structure in XC2. Optional, though. For people who prefer to find them for themselves.
