Very debatable the impact on file size open world has.  Skyrim's file size was smaller than most major linear games at the time on PS360.  Bloodborne is markedly smaller on your hard drive than the original Titanfall or the Call of Duty games that came out that year and since.  

This could simply be the result of Monolith Soft being smarter with their file sizes.  There's a lot of ways to mitigate file size bloat.
