It was worded a bit badly. I think what he wanted to try and allude to with the phrase "if prayers did anything" is the inaction of congress which could actually do something but isn't. He was talking to Paul Ryan after all. "Worthless sack of shit" was absolutely appropriate though.

Also how is this early? If anything it's rather quite late considering the amount of mass shootings this year which if I recall correctly is a lot longer than 24h.
