| TalonMan said: LOL!!! You work for Amazon!?!? Well then, how can you NOT be biased??? :P Anyway - like I said, I still have my Prime membership and there is ZERO chance I will ever ditch it (unless they jack up the rate to something ridiculous), for all the same reasons you just listed above. I love Prime and wouldn't drop it for anything, at this point. But I just can't shake the feeling that I'm getting a better deal with BestBuy. I'll give you one more example - I preordered the "Collector's Edition" of Xenoblade at BestBuy for $79.99. How much is it at Amazon? That's right - the full $99.99 because they don't discount these special edition items, pre-order or not. And so with that one order, I already saved $20 - so long as I had saved another $10 over the next two years (and yeah, I've already saved that much LONG ago!!), I'm fully in the black. I will definitely grant you the convenience of not having to pay up front for pre-orders - although there are times where I actually DO like having the money out in advance. Nothing worse than a game that's about to ship, and I realize I'm a little short and have to cancel - at least with BestBuy, it's already paid for. And if I decide to cancel later, the money is back within 24hrs. The sole reason I even checked out GCU in the first place, was because I wanted to buy the last (final?) wave of Lego Dimensions - and for whatever reason, they're still not available on Amazon (Powerpuff Girls, Teen Titans, and Beetlejuice). Guess what? Not only were they available (they still are), but they ALSO came with the GCU 20% discount!!
Do me a favor - work with your overlords over there at Amazon!! Make them understand what BestBuy is offering these days, and get them to match it!! Ha! Ha!!! I would LOVE to keep all my gaming purchases at Amazon (along with everything else I buy) - but right now, there ain't no way of getting around BestBuy... :( |
I agree that plan vs plan, GCU is cheaper. However, the win for Amazon is convienance. For me specifically, I'll never buy a "collector's edition" so meh. In the end, the bit I'd potentially save with GCU simply isn't worth the drive. Especially considering most of my game purchases are likely to just be digital.
I'm sure those that take into account gaming competiveness, etc, know the value of GCU. I'm betting that they also recognize that it's just another free benefit in the Prime membership and that BB is likely losing money on this hand over fist, meaning it won't be around forever. Amazon can keep the lesser benefit, which is better than any other company, and still outdo BB (and any other retailer).
