Whatever keeps you happy. If buying additional consoles that play the same games as the hardware you already have gives you satisfaction: go for it! Personally I'm already happy if my hardware collection gives me access to all the game libraries... if a new console can play all games of the older device (in the same quality or even better), I don't need to keep the older device. I sold my Wii when I got the Wii U due to full Wii-BC. I sold my PS4 when I got the PS4 Pro since they share the same game library. I didn't replace my DS with a broken shoulder button and damaged touchscreen, instead I got an 3DS XL with full DS-BC. I thought about replacing my RRoD-360, instead I bought an Xbox One with a growing library of 360-BC. On the other hand I kept my PSP because the Vita only gave me access to a part of the PSP library. I kept my PS3 because of the lack of BC on PS4.

I'm pretty much with you. When I got a Wii, I sold my GameCube. When I got a Wii U, I gave away my Wii. Etc. Currently, my game room where 90% of my gaming takes place has a WiiU, PS3, PS4, X360, XBOS, and Switch. That's mostly all I'll ever need.
To be honest, I'd probably be happy with just one XBO but Microsoft's cloud storage setup is pretty great. I can turn off a game in one room, go into another and pick up exactly where I left off (more or less) since I buy everything digitally. Same goes for web browser, and most apps. A quick two second sync and it's game on!
Sometimes I play online with someone in the same house. Sometimes my wife is asleep and I wake up in the middle of the night so I can play without leaving the bed. Random Peggle wars are common. If you have a casual gaming friend, Peggle and Peggle 2 are like a drug to them! More than anything, we use the apps (Hulu, Netflix, WWE Network, and especially the browser--www.m4ufree.info is a gift from God!) on every TV at any given moment. I'd say one console is mostly used for games and the rest are just convenience and entertainment apps.
I'm gonna give one XBO away or sell it in a week or two, though. Most likely the 500GB original Xbox.
