Small micro countries are a problem. They want all the independence but cannot sustain themselves alone, so the first thing they're gonna do after independence is running around and asking bigger countries for aid. That's why bigger countries exist. Seperate country means separate government, rules, issues etc. That means more resources are eaten away for silly burocracy and issues that could be more effectively tackled in a bigger national context.

You cannot have your cake and eat it too just because you don't like your government. The world is better off with as few countries as possible.

There are of course some exceptions where people are actually oppressed and abused by a fascist government. Catalonia is not such a case.

Those people are not deciding "their own future". They're deciding the future of a whole strip of land that not only affects all people living there but everyone else who is dependent on that land as well. If they were deciding their own future they would just move away.

And who are you, or me, to decide what is the minimum size acceptable for a people to determine their own future?

And believe me, Catalunya can definately sustain themselves, thats the main reason Spain cannot afford to lose them, their GDP would freefall...

Like I said before, my country went through the same process and on the 1st of December 1640 we maanged to get rid of the Spanish king once and for all, after 60 years of stealing, and leeching our country and our colonies.

I'm ashamed by the support my country is giving to Spain. The lack of backbone makes me sick!

Guess how they sustain themselves? By trading within their own fucking country. Being part of the EU also boosts tourism to Barcelona. Ceceding and being promptly out of the EU will hurt them. No, they cannot sustain themselves without the help of other countries.

The one too decide what country is too small to exist is common sense and financial responsibility. Nobody will be better off if they split. They will have their temporary victory lap and then what? The people who live there and don't agree are fucked, the people who depended on that land are fucked. According to you the whole pof Spain is fucked. A land that already has very fragile financial stability. So eventually even the people who wanted to leave are fucked even if they don't want to admit it.

Look at what happened with Brexit or Crimea. Everyone is fucked now because some special snowflakes dreamed of their own country one day.
