This isn't the first time I've seen this weird dichotomy articulated. So it's either a super expensive story-driven game or a games-as-a-service multiplayer title?

Does Microsoft realize you can make a single-player game with a modest budget and without cinematic pretensions?

It's an interesting argument.

I'm trying to think of recent single-player games that didn't have a big budget, didn't have multiplayer, but still sold well.  They probably exist, but I can't name them.

Ratchet and Clank, Until Dawn, Hellblade off the top of my head.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.
