I have pretty mixed feelings.
- The power system is good.
- I love what they've done with skills.
- I kinda like the more tactical combat, but I don't like how it's going to really tie combat to a grid. Get a mat or forget about it.
- I think turning non-combat spells into rituals is cool from a flavour perspective, but it's lame that you have to spend 60g and ten minutes to cast Animal Messenger.
- The new multiclassing rules stink.
- They got rid of the unsexy races to replace them with more elves and those tacky dragonborn.
- They added the warlord class to fill the leader role when bard would have fit that role perfectly.
- Wizard is currently the only class who fits the controller role. Perhaps they could have put druids there.
- The new alignment system is stupid. It's like the game designer went to the George W. Bush School of Moral Oversimplification. Something is wrong when a god of trickery and a god of law have the same alignment.
In conclusion, most of my issues could be addressed by re-adding the core races and classes which missed the first cut in a sourcebook, house rules making multiclassing less feeble, slapping the old nine-point alignment system back on, and me sucking it up and buying a game mat.
