There is a wave of maturity on the Switch right now and it could phase out or keep building depending on the next few moves.

"Mario" tends to slant it toward younger audiences, but perhaps Doom and Skyrim will help maintain the momentum.  If Metroid does not come out next year, then it will not help this.  They may be asking for mature 3rd party titles aggressively because they are hitting setbacks or delays in the Metroid development and do not expect a 2018 release, so they need mature titles to fill that gap.

Having said this, Switch is pressing a lot of different buttons, each that need to be developed and catered to going forward to maintain success. I'll go through some and rate the momentum on a scale of percentage to maximization. These momentums are not evidenced necessarily by existing titles but by current and future potential and expectations.  There is

-The "Indie" effect - closely related to the retro effect (Switch has this at 99%) This has a natural drive for Puzzle adventures, Retro titles, Party games, Horror games, and more Creative titles.

-The "Multiplayer" effect (At about 65% due to the nature of the system, joycons, portability, pick up and play, etc.) However, it does need a Mario Party of some sort and Smash Brothers or some other heavy hitters soon.  If "Morphies Law" turns out good, then this could be the app to propel this effect.

-The "Mature - Horror" effect (At about 40% due to Thumper and the darker skew of a few other indie titles, and in part BoTW)  Even though there are not many games that could be given the Horror tag, the mature advertising has helped this dramatically as does the personal and interactive nature of the Switch.  It really makes the games more personal.  Mix this with indie titles that have darker themes and you actually have a really great platform for horror titles.  This will not really be apparent until more horror titles release.

-The "Epic experience" effect (At about 50% due to Breath of the Wild setting the standard with big open worlds, however the indie titles have really brought this momentum down considerably)

-The "Mature - Other" effect (At about 50% due to the advertising and design of Switch) I personally think that the Mature - Horror is much more lucrative in driving future Mature - Other titles with Indies and Doom leading the way,  this section will increase with time if Nintendo can catch the natural potential for horror experiences.  This will bring on other shooters and mature titles.

-The "Sports" effect - (30%) The potential is there only due to the flexibility, maturity, and ease of use of the Switch design.  Time will tell if the sports crowd fully embraces.  Many many factors involved here, like Europe system sales and initial titles convincing EA and other major sports developers.  Unfortunately, this is not a genre that is leveraged by Indie genre types.

-The "MMO" effect - (40%)  Yes, the Switch even has this.  With MMOs being considered and coming, the portability of the console could cause this genre to have a further surge. This could be a key driver in some world markets.

IF all of these and a few other waves line up well (and competitors do not complicate), then we will have the best selling console of all time. It is about balancing existing assets, new assets, and strategic genre distribution.  Thankfully Switch has opportunities in all of these momentums.  Not many consoles in the industry history can say that. Those that could, were usually the best selling.
