The reality of the matter is that VGC numbers are actually behind......
In June PS4 was officially at 60M. VGC was at that time months if not weeks behind. Currently it stilll is (we are still getting august numbers if I am not mistaken), all year round the PS4 has shown to average around 1M in sales globally..... so as of right now it very well could have sold anywhere between 3-4M consoles between june and now.
