We all know by now that the release of a big-budget game is not the end of the story. Today's case in point is Assassin's Creed: Origins, which has Ubisoft announced will have a season pass with two expansions, plus a pair of cosmetic packs, 500 Helix Credits, and an "exclusive rare weapon" called the Calamity Blade. And for those of you who don't want to pony up for the extras, there's some free stuff on the way too.

A recently posted job listing at Blizzard suggests that a new Overwatch project might be in the works. The studio is seeking a "generalist artist intern" to work on an unannounced project, and one of the "recommended talents" is a familiarity with Overwatch.

 

Hearthstone is giving away the first Warlock hero skin for free, but there's a catch

Okay, brace yourselves. Against all my previous advice, we're going to need to venture outside. Or at least we are if we want to score the sweet new animated Hearthstone skin which Blizzard is giving away later this month. Nemsy Necrofizzle is the first new look for the Warlock class, and she's going to be earned exclusively by participating at Blizzard-approved Fireside gatherings.

 

25 years later, Star Control 2 is getting a direct sequel

Just over four years ago, Sins of a Solar Empire developer Stardock announced it had acquired the rights to Star Control from publisher Atari in order to create Star Control: Origins, a reboot of the space strategy series. Origins, which was recently delayed, is a prequel being made without the input of Star Control series creators Fred Ford and Paul Reiche III. Today, Ford and Reiche made it clear why: they were waiting for the right time to make a sequel of their own, and evidently that time is now.

There's been a curious uptick in train games lately. Hot on the heels of Tracks, a nostalgic wooden train sandbox, comes Mashinky, a strategic and involved train sim from one-man developer Jan Zelený. Mashinky recently entered Steam Early Access and is currently available for $24.99.

 

NIS America apologizes for Ys Eight translation, hints at December release on the PC

Ys Eight: Lacrimosa of Dana was supposed to come to the PC in mid-September. But one day prior to its scheduled release it was delayed, with no word of a new release date, "due to continued efforts in improving gameplay quality." Exactly what that meant wasn't made clear, but it may have something to do with the English translation. Via DualShockers, the president of NIS America has apologized for its poor quality, and said that an updated localization is in the works.
