Seriously? So many other threads about even the most trivial political things, yet where are the threads about Spain's fascist anti-democratic violence? Why is there always criticism of south American, African, Asian and even eastern European countries when they do something even slightly anti-democratic yet so little for such a huge abuse of power by a western European country to restrict democratic freedom and oppress a minority?

From article 2 of the EU Treaty "The Union is founded on the values of respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights, including the rights of persons belonging to minorities."

Where is the respect of the Catalan people's freedom and democracy? When will Spain be kicked out of the EU for failing to adhere to one of it's most basic tenents? One that western European leaders have used to criticise other countries such as Turkey and Russia numerous times.

So I looked into this thing and my opinion hasn't changed. The reasons for Catalonia to want to be independant seem flimsy at best. It's not like they're oppressed or lead terrible lives. What is oppressed is their will to do something stupid. I think it's correct for the government to try and keep people from doing something stupid. If only the UK had the balls to stop Brexit. Another stupid campaign to stroke people's egos and stir excitement in their boring lives.
