Gun ownership is indeed a problem in the USA. The root cause of it is the incredibly low threshold to get ahold of a gun by legal means. Prospective gun owners only have to win a spelling contest against a pillow in order to qualify as psychologically sound to be able to handle a gun responsibly. And while 73% of Americans do not pass this test on first try, it's way too easy to cheat the system by writing all five of the possible words that could be asked on the palm of a hand.

You insult my intelligence. I was able to spell the word 'imbecile' on only my sixth attempt. I can promise you that I did not use permanent sharpie on my hand.... maybe.
