Asian and African teams make up around 2/16 teams mathematically in the World Cup, so in the 32 team era there should be 2 teams in the Round of 16.

1998: 0/16
2002: 2/16
2006: 0/16
2010: 2/16
2014: 0/16

Africa
1998: 1/16
2002: 1/16
2006: 1/16
2010: 1/16
2014: 2/16

Or in other words, if there are 32 teams in total and 16 advance to the knockout round, each confideration should get half of its teams beyond the group stage, because exactly half of the total amount of teams gets eliminated.

Asia commonly had 4 teams at the last five world cups, so in total 10 of 20 should have made it to justify their amount of spots. They've gone 4/20. 20% instead of 50%.

Africa commonly had 5 teams at the last five world cups (six in 2010 because of hosting), so in total 13 of 26 should have made it. They've gone 6/26. Slightly over 20% instead of 50%.

If either confederation received additional spots in a world cup with 32 teams, it would happen at the expense of federations that overperform.

Compare it to South America who has gone 18/25 (72%)
Expanding the World Cup was partly done to appease the European and South American teams who were afraid of losing spots.
Anyways I am really hoping an Asian or African team makes at least the semifinals next year.
