African qualifiers are like a Champions League tournament they're the hardest to get through and the are only four spots, Egypt are one of the strongest yeah but the are like 10 other teams that are also one of the strongest on the continent meaning 6 or so have to go out. 4 of them for example got drawn in one group this year, Cameroon, Nigeria, Zambia and Algeria and keep in mind the former 3 are 3 of the last 4 African Champions, it's probably one reason why the WC is being expanded to 64 teams.
Imagine if only 4 European teams could go through, the qualifiers would be like the Euros.
