China does not want sanctions so they do not put a leash on North Korea much like how they won't put a leash on Taiwan (and it's not even a UN member state!) but the US does not want China to expand it's territories either so North Korea retains it's independence. China also doesn't want reunification along the Korean peninsula since an aggressor state would get closer to them ... If the US, South Korea or Japan want any relief the most former has to agree to it and the second most former has to give up any future claims to North Korea and acknowledge it as a new potential chinese province ... (It may be too late for South Korea's dream of reunification just like Germany's reunification but there's still time to prevent a new world war and take the option with the least amount of bloodshed) |
The ideal scenario would indeed be reunification. Mainly for cultural and linguistic reasons. I would like to see that happen, but with Trump on the helm, i can only fear the consequences.
Also, i'm convinced he has already decided to attack. Many of us think Trump is often not serious, but he has proven time and again that he will try to follow through, no matter the cost to his country and people, much less others.
