Like how "Beats" headphones aren't the best on the market but people who have them look down on people who don't. They just care about the brand and not the quality.

It is a fashion statement.  For people that aren't confident enough in their appearance or how they handle themselves in the real world to compensate and be like hey 2000 world look at me I have an ipod.  I'm not a loser.  Just look at any Apple commercial for the past 15+ years.
