I think this is a US thing. In most countries the proportion of iPhones is much smaller. Or it is simply because if you have an Android, it can be a cheap phone. An iPhone is never that cheap. Just like having a Mac makes you look, at least, not poor. A guy with a regular notebook could be mistaken for a "poor" dude even if he actually was using a 3 grand MSI gaming laptop.
