Microsoft took the usual opportunistic approach and condemned this practice, probably because they have a much smaller userbase. It's not as if MS are short of cash, right? It seems to be mentioned a hell of a lot by their fans. So, when MS then go and do exactly the same thing, those who have followed the PR stunts by MS see their hypocrisy, which is why they get called out on it. It's a completely different conversation, conflated by those who can't accept the obvious to avoid facing the truth. One conversation is about the practice itself and the other is about the hypocrisy of calling foul and then implementing exactly the same tactic.

Only someone deliberately ignoring this would miss the difference.

So Sony is better because they never condemned timed exclusives?

"We're Sony. We do horrible things to games, but we never said we wouldn't. So really it's everyone else's fault for thinking we aren't terrible people."

It's not about better or worse, it's about two separate conversations, one of hypocricy and one of the practive itself. When MS was doing this all the time last generation and monopolising as many games as they could, I can't remember a single XB owner condemning it. In fact I recall most XB1 owners 'laughing' about the fact they got maps for COD before Sony fans. When Sony got that deal, suddenly it became a 'bad practice'. What this is is the fans mirroring the general mindset of the company they follow, demonstrating the exact same hypocricy.
