Edges are rendered in native 4k, making the image sharper, to my understanding. I'm not a tech guy, though, so I'm a little confused about the process myself (I was just conveying what they are saying, not making any analysis myself). 

I did not hear about this before. But doing some research on it, I doubt this is how the technique is supposed to work because that sounds like plain old multisampling anti-aliasing which only smooths the edges around geometry and has no effect on alpha textures and shader aliasing. Although I seriously doubt they were able to make this out with simply their eyes.
