How much do you reckon Sony paid for MGS4 exclusivity?

The only reason data is duplicated is because of SEEK times, NOT transfer speed. In case you didn't know what Seek time is, it's the time it takes the laser to get to the data requested. On Blu-Ray, since it's more compact, it could theoretically have a faster seek time as the laser doesn't have to travel as far to find the data. On the flip side of this, it's rotational speed is slower, but again, more compact data means it doesn't have to spin as fast to buffer that data.

On average, the PS3 BDROM and the 12X 360 DVD are about the same speed. The 360 has it by a hair on average, and they have to use the stuffing techniques to out large data on the outside tracks to speed up reads. The only reason you'd have duplicate data on the BD is to avoid seeking as much as possible. If you have the space, use it.

I'd argue that taking out this redundancy in BD only to cram it onto a DVD would actually make the load times on the 360 incredibly long since you can't "cheat" the drive and would have to constantly seek for data that is normally duplicated.

I disagree with much of what you've said here, particularly you ignoring the fact that the PS3's data seek times (and yes, they are seek times I acknowledge I misspoke, though its transfer speed IS slower from memory?) only come close to DVD9's when certain packets of data are being used.  "Average" is a very misleading concept to adopt in this case.

Nonetheless, there are numerous threads open about Blu-Ray disk read and seek times, please use one of them if you wish to argue the toss, as this thread is about Sony paying for MGS4.
