Didn't check the links, because I know there is no data which shows causation either way.
Just want to point out though that not all pro-gun rights people are on the right. I am an left-libertarian (anarchist), which is as far left as you can get. Even state-socialists support gun rights because that is a safeguard againts a more plutocratic rulership. Only the center-left is anti-gun rights in this country.
