It's not about feeling slighted. It's about feeling the thing isn't worth buying. Diminsing returns has eroded the impact of generational leaps. They need to become more significant for leaps to continue to justify purchase. 4k/60fps isn't enough, those kinds of upgrades have drawn a resounding "meh" from the average consumer with regards to the Pro and X. There needs to be a real, serious leap or the response will be the same. This idea jumps can get shorter or stay the same lenght WITH midgen upgrades in between is, imo, a massive mistake. IMO, the Pro and X lock this gen in to run longer. 2020 is the earliest. 2021 just as likely. I could even see 2022 if the sales of the PS4 continue to be red hot. Which is another thing, why cut the legs out from under the 4 just 6 years in when the sales right now are looking very, very strong and look to stay that way for a long while. It just doesn't make any sense. And again, Xbox is no position to rush as you said and may not even be a thing in gen 9. Rushing out the door brings no benefits, only risk. |
It wouldn't be cutting the legs off the PS4 because it would have the same games, albeit without the bells and whistles. Like I said, Sony could easily sit on the PS5 exclusive games until MS decide to release the XB4. It's about the software sales really and the console that sells the most gets the most software support (sorry Spencer), so therefore sales will follow for BOTH the PS4 and the PS5. With BC/FC being the main objective, it does not matter which console those exclusives are delivered on.
The PS5 Exists.
