Yeah, there are a few games I have felt burned by as well. Usually taken in by their appealing look, or something that sounds good on paper, but in practice I ended up not liking it at all in practice. I can relate, my list is long...
These are all games that I didn't find just merely disappointing (FF9, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword - which all had lots I didn't didn't enjoy, but also stuff I enjoyed), but found I didn't enjoy almost any of the play experience. Some of them, like FF12, No More Heroes, and Sunshine, I enjoyed for maybe 2-3 hours when I was still optimistic, but then found myself enjoying less and less until I was only playing to get further - like a chore. Others, like Mario Kart DD, I didn't enjoy at all, but figured it would grow on me, and the more I played the more boring I found it. Then others, Mad World, Child of Light, Red Dead Redemption, were just so far off from what I expected, what I enjoy, that I completely hated them within minutes, and subsequent play attempts only confirmed it. Then others, Smash Bros, Zack and Wiki, Pikmin, I just couldn't put my finger on why I didn't like them, I just found them a little boring; weird, especially when I found similar and objectively worse games to be much more fun (like Sim Ant to Pikmin, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles CB to Zack and Wiki, and the original Smash Bros to every other iteration).
Now I'm rambling, and probably pissing people off with opinions. |
Hopefully nobody is that sensitive...but i know better.
I actually liked most of those games but there were a couple where I felt just like you. And, to be honest, I've been there too. Like so many times, bro. That's when it clicked and somewhere during the 7th gen I just quit caring about reviews and buying whatever looked interesting to me. Since then, there have been have that got terrible reviews that I absolutely loved and games that got great reviews that I've hated--but I quit letting reviews control my buying habits.
