Agents of Mayhem studio Volition suffers layoffs

Agents of Mayhem developer Volition has laid off more than 30 of its roughly 200 employees, according to a Kotaku report. The reduction comes in the wake of a tepid response to the game, and while layoffs after a launch are unfortunately not unusual, this instance is particularly noteworthy because it reportedly includes general manager Daniel Cermak, who has been an executive at the studio for well over a decade.

Frictional Games, the studio that brought you the unforgettable happy-fun-times of Penumbra, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and Soma, revealed last year that it was working on not just one, but two new games. Releasing games more frequently, it explained at the time, meant that it wouldn't be so reliant on every project being a hit. In a new blog post, the studio shared an update on the state of both of its new projects, and also dug deeper into why the decision to take on two projects simultaneously was necessary.

2K Games announced a couple of days ago that the upcoming table-smashing sim WWE 2K18 will be released for the PC on the same day that it comes out for consoles—a first for the series. It also made mention of the Deluxe Edition of the game, which includes a few bonus rasslers—RVD, the Beast, and a couple of alt-Cenas—and the season pass, details of which weren't available but would be announced "soon." Which, as it turns out, means "today."
