Monster Hunter V or VI (whatever they want to call it) is already in development for Switch, book it. Capcom is stupid, but they're not dumb enough to end the portable line of MH games. "World" will be the new series for PS4/XB1 home consoles.

Generally speaking though I think this series was going to see a fair sized decline this generation anyway.

Why do people keep saying "Monster Hunter 5"? World IS Monster Hunter 5. It's being made by the team that made 4, and they consider it a mainline entry. People need to get over that fact. It's either a Worlds port, or a continuation of the terribly lazy side series they've been doing for mobile for a few years. Considering how terrible Generations is, the best I could hope for is a Worlds port.

MHW is basically MH5 but if they release a "G" or enhanced version of it on Switch within 12 months of World releasing in Japan they might go with the name MH5 instead.  They'd probably feel it would make it sound more appealing to the japanese handheld fans and it would differentiate the portable version from the console one.

Was cross play confirmed?

I don’t know. I thought it was. It would be pretty stupid not to have cross-play for a series so dependent on its multiplayer community. Especially if they want the series to have a chance to grow in the West. Like I’m not even sure why they would bother with an XBO version if they can’t play with the Japanese fanbase at all.

I don't believe it was confirmed between ps4 and XB1 anyway.  And I doubt Sony are in any humour to assist Microsoft with a bigger playerbase after MS shunned Sony last gen.

It will grow their player base in the west.  A port of MHW on Switch late next year in Japan or a mh5 using world's assets will make up for any lost sales in Japan.

Their goals will be achieved.

By this logic why call MHXX on switch a flop/bomb? It already achieved their goals with 3ds sales and we know MHXX on switch was profitable easily.

By capcoms expectations it was probably a bomb. Did capcom give expectations for it?  Regardless I'd never call it a bomb financially.  It was likely very profitable.

That's an answer that already expects Monster Hunter World to fall short of Capcom's expectations and is looking for a way for Capcom to limit the damage.

It sounds like common sense.  Your angle sound like a way to post badly about it when it releases.

If capcom don't do as I said then it's very likely Sony paid a pretty penny to exclude Nintendo and cover the lost sales.
