Man if AMD keeps the AM4 socket going with IPC improvements and all that jazz for 3 years, I will be even more happy that I chose Ryzen over Intel and also recommended that.
Cause lets say that in the next line of CPUs, Ryzen has the same IPC as a SkyLake i7 which I don't think that is that impossible of a task and they keep the 8 cores. That means that in order for me to get what is essentially an 8 core i7, I would need to just upgrade my CPU instead of upgrading everything like on intel side. And then on 2019, they have another IPC improvement and again, 8 core i7 with IPC improvement while keeping the same socket while on intel's side, oh look, new cpu + new mobo.
Meanwhile, if I bought a Kaby Lake i5, my upgrade path would be an i7 and then Rip really. Not to say those are bad cpus and the i7 is certainly performance king in a lot of gaming areas but man, if AMD does this right, all I can say is just damnn.
And then of course, DDR5 will come and then zen 2 will probably support it and that is when I may want to upgrade my PC.
But it's all theory, lets see how it plays out.
