True, it doesn't have to be one or the other.  For me personally, if you take away the third party exclusives, Sony loses most of it's appeal to me, but that's a biased Nintendo fanboy opinon. :)  I do think it leaves Sony in a vulnerable state even if Japanese third parties started to treat Nintendo equally.

In this business, you cannot be pretty and dumb.

You have to be well balanced to reach the Numero Uno place.

Playstation consoles are the most balanced, with decent specs, great third party support, great exclusives, etc.

Of course the 3rd party support is one of the biggest appeals of PS consoles, but they are not the only one. It would be silly to think that.
