On a side note, Nvidia's Volta GPU line in 2018 is supposedly using GDDR6. Now that was a long standard, GDDR5 has been used since 2008, when AMD used it in their HD 4870 GPU.

4k+ gaming and machine learning are very bandwidth intensive.
There is now a real need and push for high bandwidth solutions, so we get them.

I wonder how well AMD's Infinity Fabric will scale under DDR5.
