The issue is the fact that "minorities" in particular black minorities refuse to let shit go. So your great great great grandma was a slave, and? How exactly does that affect you today? You literally have the same rights as anyone else. She didnt, you do. Numerous studies have been done that show how you present yourself plays a HUGE role in how people treat you. Add in how you communicate and I gaurantee a black man in the ghetto wearing a suit and speaking in an educated manor will get the same respect as a white man in the same neighborhood dressed the same way speaking the same way. Sure cops are on edge in bad neigborhoods and are quicker to shoot, they have reason to be nervous. Im not saying that all police actions are called for or justified either. I happen to be in a 1% "outlaw" club and have had my fair share of run ins with police. They have a pre concieved notion about me because of what I belong to and I have been pulled over for absolutly no reason aside from the patch on my back. Im sure they are expecting some uneducated asshole to start talking to them but instead I am polite and respectful. On a couple occasions I was going well over the speed limit and was given a warning, they even complimented me on my bike. We have evolved to asses threat level based on visual cues, driving a crappy oldsmobile with 26" rims says one of two thing, you dont know how to manage youru money or you are a drug dealer. For me, they asume that I am armed and sell meth. You dont go into a job interview with baggy pants a wrinkled shirt and smelling like weed because you are trying to make a good impression on the person interviewing you. Unfortunatly people dont realize that outside of that envirment and cant figure out that maybe they are being treated differently because of how they are presenting themselves. |
It's black minorities that can't let things go, yet we literally have the KKK and Nazi supporters teaming in the streets in defense of civil war memorabilia. Even those on the lesser right. Voting for a president, in their mind, they want to take things back to "how things used to be". Which at no time in American history has there been an axiom of a great era.
What you've just come up with is a defense of profiling. Just because you're compliant with the cops, doesn't mean the experience is the same for minorities. Compliance guarantees nothing. Just look at the cases of Amadou Diallo, Levar Jones and Philando Castle for example. You're basically breaking things to "black people would be treated better if they acted exactly like white people", which is pretty messed up. Because the truth and the history cuts much deeper than that.
