The whole point of Catalonia becoming independent would be to prove they can govern themselves without needing the Spanish government. Staying in La Liga would show the opposite, that they are reliant on Spain. As for Wales, last time I checked they did not gain independence from the UK.

Right now the whole point of Catalonia becoming independent is that some ex-politicians of Catalonia need it to avoid ending up in jail due to corruption, and to fill their pockets with even more money. And if that damages catalonian businesses and citizens, then so be it.
