Why?

1. You know you want the game.

2. I can save 20%.

3. Get game same day as launch.

Where is the negative?

The only good argument there is that you save 20%, but you can save much more by waiting anyway.

If you wait until after release, you'll have more time and opportunities to find gameplay, and find out if the game is actually for you. I really don't understand the big deal about getting a game on launch day. We often wait several years before games release, but people can't wait another month or two so that you are no longer blinded by hype and get the game cheaper? The benefits of waiting (access to more gameplay and reviews, lower price, not blinded by hype) vastly outweigh the negatives (waiting a bit longer than the years you already waited).

I agree on not pre-ordering if you are unsure you want the game. However, if you are certain, then you should. You are typically not going to save 20% of the MSRP any time soon. This is especially true for Nintendo gamers.

I've only very rarely been sad about any game I bought and never a pre-ordered one. That is why I have my #1 as #1 above.
