I like your idea but it's not feasible from a development point of view. Plus the games are tailored for an experience of how they want you to feel. Resident Evil has evolved many times over the years and it will surely evolve many more times over the decades.

The numbered titles are always largely experimental and takes big risks where the Revelation titles appeal more to the fans. There's also HD ports of the classics, of course that doesn't really fill the appetite for new games of the older styles. As a huge Resident Evil fan myself, I feel the most important thing for Capcom to do is focus on the story a bit more. That was my number one complaint of RE7. It had a fantastic story but the series has so many ongoing and unresolved plot threads that we didn't need a new one, yet alone one that hardly connected to the main canon. Though that's hardly fair to say since that rival company/Tentsu could very well factor into the series. Maybe even one of the organizations that Ada had dealings with.
