Being "genuinely fun" or "very well paced" doesn't matter that much anymore, huh. Somebody even said it doesn't look like a PS4 game, when the others say it looks gorgeous and a work of engineering. Knack is faded to be hated, it was mediocre back then, but it's really not cool to just go and decide that's what it'll ever be and make it be. |
Writing only matters in a platforming if they make it matter. Sonic and Mario have like zero writing. You load up game, and Princess kidnapped and you need to save her. You then go through 100 levels that add like zero more story, they are just platforming and at end you save princess. No story at all.
Sonic, you load up and robotnic does osmething evil and you are off. You spend the rest of the game saving animals and destroying his machines. No more story.
Those games ride or die completely on their platforming and gameplay. The story is a non factor. Sounds like Knack tried to implement a story, thus it can hurt the game. Imagine a Twilight platformer. Who cares how great the platforming is if you have to go throguh Twilights story and love triangles and such not.
