The 16 bit era is my favorite - maybe I'm biased growing up as a kid during that time but that was the golden era for me. The graphics have a certain charm for me. But that said the retro (both 8 and 16 bit) revival thing, particularly with indies has kinda been done to death, to the point where even a fan of those type of graphics like myself is getting sick of seeing them. I'd love to see some more unique styles in the future. Doesn't necessarily have to be realistic - it can still be stylized and even simplified in its own way. The recent claymation Kirby game, and Cuphead's old 50's style animation are examples of this.
