I'm just speculating, but according to FFXIV The Encyclopedia Eorzea, Ivalice itself is a landmass located north of Othard.

The Encyclopedia Eorzea says Dalmasca is in Othard, so I think the whole of Ivalice is somewhere in the mist on the world map.
