Here's the thing. I'm black and a former police officer from '03-'10.

For an honest person, being stopped by the police can be a really stressful and traumatic experience. They automatically assume there's something wrong, even if they have no idea what it is. Regular people aren't trained to react in this situation. You can say what people are "supposed to do" but they are always going to be normal people. It's the duty of the trained officer to recognize this and react appropriately.

I give this officer a pass in this instance. He's trying to comfort the lady by saying some really racist bs. Just know that the next time a Philando Castile is nervous around the police, it's because he's nervous. Not guilty.

Case by case.
